Made by hand

Origami Star Garland Kit

It's often easy to forget about the design and manufacturing process when you're looking at a beautifully made item in its final form. We think it's important to share an understanding of how the products on your shelves came to be.

So here we go, a step by step account of how we transform of our signature Patterned Papers into the Origami Star Garland Kit, all by hand, by one of our small team of three…

STEP ONE: Cutting

We begin by carefully cutting the papers into origami strips (we've calculated the optimum size strips to create the perfect size star for the garland, and to also minimise waste during production).

We then cut our Sophie print papers to create the bespoke patterned wrapper for each kit, and finally cut the grey board, added to create structure, down to size.

STEP TWO: Components

We count the strips into the correct amounts and fold them, securing each stack with a band. Every set of instructions is also folded in half and half again.  Finally, the pure linen thread is cut to length and tied.

STEP THREE: Packaging

Using a special jig made by Edith, we wrap all of the components in the outer paper packaging, making sure they're nice and snug to create a beautiful, satisfyingly symmetrical envelope.

The bellybands are printed by hand on our hot foil press, and then each is then stamped accordingly. The bellybands are carefully wrapped around the final product and secured with a product label to show what you can make with what's found inside.

Voila - They're ready to pack and make their way to your doorsteps!

Like all of our products, our kits are made in small batches. We've perfected the art and can assemble around 60 in a day!
